A Behind-the-Scenes Look at our Sled Dog Tour

Booking a sled dog tour with us means so much more than just an exciting ride through snow-covered landscapes. What goes into preparing for such a tour often remains hidden. Our dogs are true athletes, but success doesn't come without hard work. The dogs need to be trained and conditioned for the sledding season, and right now, we're already deep into the training process. At the start of each season, we have our dogs checked by a canine physiotherapist to relieve any blockages or tension, ensuring they are fit and ready. Caring for these athletes requires precise planning and dedication. From regular training sessions that build their endurance and strength to necessary breaks for muscle recovery, every detail is carefully considered. Depending on the dog, we also focus on individual training sessions to better meet their specific needs.

Of course, what really excites every Malamute's heart is their food. Each dog has an individualized feeding plan, which we adjust regularly. A healthy, balanced diet is just as important for dogs as it is for people. When you book a tour with us, the dogs get their food earlier to avoid running with a full stomach, even if that means we have to get up extra early.

Just like shoes may pinch a human's foot, sometimes a harness no longer fits our dogs, and this can affect the whole dog. That’s why it’s important to regularly check that the harness is well-fitted, especially with the younger dogs who often grow faster than expected. For us, even at around 35 kilos, they still feel like "minis." As their muscles develop, their pulling harnesses often need to be resized. Our equipment is regularly maintained and renewed.

After each sledding run, the dogs receive relaxing massages and paw care to ensure they remain healthy and fit for the next adventure. Then there are the youngest and the seniors. The youngsters, still learning the ropes, don’t go on the big tours just yet, while our retired dogs enjoy their well-deserved rest. The pups go on short trips where they learn commands, observe the older dogs, and start to figure out how the world works. Meanwhile, our senior dogs enjoy peaceful walks at their own pace and are greeted at home by the cats, who lovingly groom them. Needless to say, the treats come a little easier for the seniors!

Our dogs love pulling the sled, running through the woods, but they equally enjoy their time to play, cuddle, or simply laze in the sun or roll in the snow. A balanced lifestyle is key to a fulfilling life. We've created an environment where our dogs feel safe and comfortable. This includes plenty of social contact with each other as well as quiet spots where they can relax and just be dogs. That's why we've built their enclosures right in the middle of the forest, where there's always something to explore, observe, or dig up. On wet and cold days, the dogs can get cozy in their dry shelters, whether on their decks or favorite lookout points on the huts – which, by the way, are our favorite spots to cuddle with them. Our dog houses are insulated and made of wood, going beyond what is required for animal welfare. After all, what’s better than a little Swedish house for the dogs too?

As for us, continuing education is of central importance to provide the best possible care for our dogs. We strive to stay up to date on dog health, training techniques, equipment, and animal welfare. New scientific findings, especially in the areas of physiotherapy and nutrition, help us better address each dog's individual needs. The exchange with other experts also expands our knowledge and inspires us to continuously improve.

Sustainability and environmental protection are particularly important to us, as they form the foundation not only for our dogs' well-being but also for the beauty and uniqueness of the environment in which we live and work. We want future generations to have the opportunity to experience this untouched nature as well. That's why we make a conscious effort to plan our sled dog tours in a way that minimizes our impact on the environment. We choose eco-friendly routes and avoid unnecessary disruptions to the natural world. Our dogs love running through these wide, pristine landscapes – and that's exactly what we want to preserve. By respecting the environment, we ensure it remains a safe and healthy habitat for our animals in the future. For us, sustainability is not just a concept but a responsibility we take on with care and heart.

Experience the passion and care that goes into each of our sled dog tours and feel the unique bond between human and animal that makes this adventure so special.
