We have found our perfect little house in the woods, equipped with everything our hearts desire. Plenty of nature, lots of peace, the river behind the house, the birds chirping, and a few lovely neighbors at a bit of a distance.
It all started with the search: where do we want to spend our lives, where do we feel best, what makes our hearts race?! After numerous vacations and outings, it became pretty clear to us. But even that decision was not easy to make, and how many compromises are we willing to accept? Not to mention that it's in a different country… 2600 km away from Cologne.(I like to think my mother is quite happy that it's still in Europe.) It had to have enough snow in the winter, many trails for training the dogs, and it should be secluded in the woods, not in a city...
From the dream of finding the perfect house in the woods to the realization of that dream, it has cost us countless kilometers, many flights, and a lot of stress, not to mention the nerves. Unfortunately, our new home didn’t just fall into our laps from dreaming. We did our research, monitored the real estate market, looked at statistics, compared houses, prices, and locations, attended viewings, recalculated each time, and sometimes sat frustrated at the table in the evening, starting the search all over again… We found a potential little house, made an offer, and were outbid… The excitement before each viewing, wondering if this would be our house, and in the end, the sober disappointment of being outbid... Until we finally found our dream house in the woods. We still have quite a bit to remodel and renovate, but thanks to Daniel, it’s really simple and also fun.
And we would do it all over again today.
